Audio Books.. nice attempt.

Check out the audio books here. Nice attempt but the text reading software probably needs to go a long way before it can be used for such purposes. Good that ipod did not find interest in this area because Iam worried about kids back in India when such a thing comes out. Parents would sure buy them ipods but only to play their acadamic textbooks on and on and on. Fun apart, I see a lot of business for ipod and your favourite book being read by software.

Imagine gutenberg (or a new book from Amazon) + text reading software + ipod this is a killer combination. But personally I like reading books than hearing them that way.

…. and a few years later: The same comment you made well over a year ago is still valid. Text to speech software does not cut it when it comes to narrating an audiobook.
However, if you want to play, go to the sitepal website and try their avatars. For web marketing or just plain fun this app is quite cool.
Personally I prefer audiobooks, but they need to be narrated well and I need to like the narrators voice. with the doenloadable audio books at the online download audiobook store I can check the voice sample before buying. This has made my pruchases so far a success.
